Kashaya (कषाय)
"The Four Passions"
Anger, ego, deceit, and greed — the engine of bondage. They are not personality flaws, but karmic chains.
Anger (क्रोध)
The fire that consumes the self before it touches the other. It shatters the equanimity (Samayika) required for liberation.
Ego (मान)
The illusion of superiority, often compared to the pride of a rogue elephant. It builds walls where there should be horizons, preventing the soul from seeing the interconnectedness of all life.
EXPLORE ANEKANTAVADA arrow_forwardDeceit (माया)
The web of complexities, symbolized by the crane (Bagla) waiting in stillness to strike. It is the distance between one's thoughts, words, and actions, thickening the veil of ignorance.
Greed (लोभ)
The deepest chain. The insatiable thirst for accumulation—be it material, emotional, or intellectual—that binds the soul to Samsara like heavy stones sinking in water.
"Just as a heavy stone sinks to the bottom of the lake, so does the soul laden with Kashaya sink deep into the cycles of rebirth."
