Ancient Wisdom of Jainism

Leshya (लेश्या)

"The Soul's Karmic Color"

In Jain philosophy, the soul's purity is manifested as an aura of color. From the deepest black of ignorance to the purest white of liberation, our thoughts and intentions paint the canvas of our spiritual existence.

Karmic Physics

Leshya is not just a visual metaphor; it is the spiritual byproduct of our psychological state. Every vibration of the soul resulting from passion (kasaya) creates a unique karmic aura.

"As the mind thinks, so the soul colors. Spiritual progress is literally the brightening of the soul's intrinsic light, purging the heavy pigments of earthly attachment."

Intention as Pigment

The soul attracts particles from the cosmic landscape based on the intensity of its emotions. Violent thoughts attract dark, heavy particles; compassionate thoughts attract light, translucent ones.

Evolution of Light

A soul's journey from a worldly existence to liberation is marked by the shifting of these six primary colors, moving away from the "Dark Leshyas" toward the "Bright Leshyas."

The Spectrum of Intent

The Six Karmic Colors

Black (Krishna)

The color of cruelty and absolute darkness. Driven by violence, anger, and absolute lack of compassion.

Blue (Neela)

Representing deceit, cowardice, and heavy attachment to worldly pleasures. The mark of a distracted soul.

Grey (Kapota)

The color of sorrow, jealousy, and lack of self-control. A state of perpetual mourning and reactive emotion.

Red (Tejo)

The first bright Leshya. Represents a soul that is self-controlled, humble, and religious. A shift toward the light.

Yellow (Padma)

Compassionate, forgiving, and devoted to spiritual inquiry. A state of deep benevolence and growing wisdom.

White (Shukla)

The purest state. Free from passion, attachment, and ignorance. The radiant aura of the Arihants and Siddhas.
