The Path

Pratikraman

प्रतिक्रमण

The Returning

The daily practice of returning — withdrawing from every wrong thought, word, and deed.

The Metaphysics of Returning

Pratikraman is not confession. It is the soul pulling itself back from where it drifted. Done twice daily by devout Jains. Philosophically it is applied Samvar and Nirjara — stopping new karma and shedding old.

Stage I

Samvar

The sealing of the doors. Consciously stopping the influx of cosmic dust into the eternal self.

Stage II

Nirjara

The cleansing fire. Shedding the accumulated layers of past actions through focused awareness.
