Six Dravyas (षड् द्रव्य)
"The Substances of Reality"
The six pillars that make up all of existence — nothing more, nothing less.
The Eternal Components
Fundamental Principles
Jiva
The Living Soul. Characterized by consciousness (Chetana). The only substance that perceives and experiences.
Pudgal
Matter and Energy. Anything that can be seen, heard, felt, smelled or tasted. Subject to integration and disintegration.
Dharma
The Medium of Motion. It does not move things itself, but provides the necessary medium for souls and matter to move.
Adharma
The Medium of Rest. Like the shade of a tree for a traveler, it is the passive catalyst that allows objects to remain still.
Akash
Space. That which provides room or accommodation to all other substances. It is infinite and all-pervasive.
Kaal
Time. The medium of change or transformation. While not having 'Pradesha' (extension), it governs all becoming.
"Nothing is newly created, nothing is totally destroyed. Reality is the constant dance of these six eternal substances changing their modes."
